Dr. Hawkshaw and Parkland JV girls volleyball bring home second silver medal:

Parkland’s Junior Varsity Win Silver at Zones:

We came into the weekend pumped up and ready to play! We started out slow against RF Staples, losing the first game 9-25 before turning it around in game 2 with solid passing to win 25-19. We were ahead the whole 3rd game but let them come back to make it close before we closed it out at 15-13.

We played more consistently against Onoway, not letting the bad plays get to us. We improved our net play, transition game, and hitting to come out on top 25-20 and 25-18.

After a lunch break we were ready to take on the home team, Morinville for top place in our pool and a spot in the semi-finals. We lost the first game 18-25 before coming back to win the second and third games to give us 1st place in our pool.

We faced our hometown rivals, Holy Redeemer, in the semi-final match. It was an extremely tight first game with lots of lead changes before we lost 23-25. We got serious and turned it around to win the second and third game 25-16 and 15-8 to move on to the gold medal match.

We ended up meeting Morinville again in the final and they came out to play! With their hometown crowd behind them and a strong serving game they beat us handily in game 1. We were down 12 points in the second game before picking up our game and making a late comeback to make it 19-21 and 22-23 but it was too little too late by 2 points.

We had a great season and to top it off, we came home with a second place finish at the Zone Championships which we are extremely proud of. Great job, girls! Congratulations on a medal filled season!
